3 Unique Aquarium Ornaments

8 Unique Fish Tank Ornaments

I’ve always said this: aquariums are like miniature homes, only they’re full of water and fish. Having an aquarium at home or in the office can be very calming and relaxing. But on top of that, it also lets you unleash your creative side that isn’t quite as possible with a dog house. This is why I love my pet fish and their aquariums.

And below I list down some of the more unique aquarium ornaments I have picked up over the years and used at one time or another.

1. SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom Aquarium Ornaments with Bonus Stickers

My kids love SpongeBob. So when they wanted their own aquarium and fish, I didn’t hesitate to decorate their tank Bikini Bottom-style. The first item on my list of aquarium ornament? This 6” Pineapple House.

I was initially a bit worried that the fish will get stuck in the windows of this ornament. What we chose to get were 2” fishes for the kids’ tank. Fortunately, that was never a problem. I also liked the fact that cleaning it up was easy. And on the plus side, when the kids get tired of the ornament and changes the decoration of the tank, this still has the potential to be a desk ornament.

If your taste in aquarium ornaments runs to the, uh, less juvenile, then you might find this Exotic Environments Caribbean Living Reed Aquarium Ornament to be more up your alley.

This ornament is made by Blue Ribbon Pet Products and features a colorful reef replica with aeration holes your fish can swim through. All you need to do is attach the standard airline tubing to the exiting air pump and air stone at the other end to allow air bubbles to stream in and out of your artificial reef.

The material is safe and non-toxic and made of poly-resin. It’s supposed to be safe for saltwater and freshwater set ups. I personally never had a saltwater aquarium but this did okay in my freshwater one. My only complaint about it is the colors aren’t as vibrant in person compared to the online pictures. Submerged in water, the colors appeared even less vivid. It didn’t really bother my fish any. But I just felt maybe I got a slightly old piece? It managed to look great when the other plants were placed beside it however, so I was eventually satisfied.

3. Exotic Environments Egyptian Vase Aquarium Ornament

Here’s another nice aquarium ornament from Blue Ribbon. This is even more exotic: a “broken” Egyptian vase. I bought this when I got tired of the whole Caribbean reef motif and wanted something more exotic for my tank. When the vase was delivered, I was worried about the jagged edges and actually filed them down a bit before placing the vase in the aquarium. I worried that it may cut my fish and hurt them if I didn’t.

Anyway, my fish loved this vase. It didn’t take too long before they were swimming in and out of the holes of the vase. My children loved it when the fish stick out their heads out of the top, too.

The vase looks big in pictures but don’t be put off. As long as your tank is bigger than 10 gallons, you should still have enough room to place other ornaments in.
