August 16, 2018 by Robert Leave a Comment

Let’s face it. People looking at aquarium for sale ads usually have a typical fish tank in mind. You know, the one that’s a rectangular, 29 gallon aquarium populating many fish hobbyist’s house. And there’s really nothing wrong with that.

That’s what I was looking for myself before I realized that fish are already boring pets compared to the usual dog and cat. There’s even more cuddling action to be had with pet birds than our aquatic friends. But owning pet fish doesn’t always have to be a boring endeavor. For one, you start by owning a unique fish tank and not get stuck with the conventional kind. Yes, a 75 gallon aquarium may look impressive. But so does an aquarium no one else has.

Unique fish tanks can double as decorative pieces and spruce up the room. They’re also great conversation starters.

Interested? Here are some of our top picks for unique fish tanks.

As unique goes, this isn’t as weird as some of the items out there. But it’s unconventional enough to warrant a spot here.

The LED lights on this aquarium enhance the colors of GloFish fluorescent fish. Think glow-in-the-dark. It’s also a good place to start your hobby because the tank isn’t very big.

The aquarium is made of seamless plastic and will look great in any room, especially at lights out. Bonus points if you have kids.

Look at that little aquarium and tell me it’s not pretty. It has a waterfall on top, for crying out loud! The glass bowl is hand-blown glass. It comes with LED lights and Tetra’s whisper filtration technology.

Granted, you can barely fit fish in it. At less than 2 gallons, this aquarium is meant to be on placed on a table top and nowhere else.

But if you’re a newbie in fish tanks, perhaps this is a good way to check how well you take to caring for fish. It doesn’t hurt that the bowl is very sleek-looking.

What to pay attention to: the bottom of this bowl is fat but only a few inches in diameter. That means no room for a lot of décor.

The light hood also tends to be a bit loose. Other than that, this is a quiet tank with good moonlight effect at night and is highly soothing to look at.

3. Magic Globe Aquarium

  • 5-gallon aquarium.
  • Water vacuum technology.
  • Comes with aquarium, night light and waterfall fountain.
  • Complete starter kit.
  • 1-Year Limited Warranty.

The Magic Globe Aquarium is made by Aquatica Gallery. The innovative design has actually garnered a lot of awards already. The tank nicely comes with all the necessary things to start up your aquarium. Setting up should also be fairly simple and easy.

Contrary to what many might think, the running water isn’t noisy and almost runs noiselessly. So does the pump. However, be prepared to have a limited variety of fish to choose from for this aquarium.

It doesn’t come with a heater and that severely limits your options. The tank is easy to clean, though. Young and old alike will get a kick out of figuring out how the water flows out without taking the fish with it.

There are plenty more unique fish tanks to choose from at Amazon and even Hayneedle. If you’re not a fan of the conventional aquarium, then go check out the above options. They certainly add oomph to an otherwise dull fish tank set-up.
